What are Elastics?
Elastics or rubber bands are an important part of your orthodontic treatment. They provide the forces needed to move teeth and jaws into their correct position. Therefore, to achieve the desired results, you must carefully follow these instructions:
- Wear your elastics all the time except while brushing your teeth or eating. Yes you need to wear them while sleeping as well.
- While eating put them on your little finger (pinky) so you remember to place them back after finishing meals.
- Sometimes elastics break or accidentally get swallowed. If that happens, replace them immediately. Otherwise, place a new elastic every day in the morning after brushing your teeth (throw away the old ones)
- If you run out of elastics or lose the packet, please contact the practice and we will arrange for another packet to be left for you to collect from reception or we will send them to you. Do not wait until your next appointment to get more elastics as it might delay your treatment or your teeth may move in a direction other than what is planned for your treatment.
Wearing elastics as advised all the time is very important to keep your treatment on track and finish as planned.
